When to Seek Emergency Vet Care

If your cat is showing any of the symptoms or situations below, don’t wait — get emergency veterinary care immediately:

  • Trauma & Accidents – falls, car accidents, or injuries

  • Urinary Blockages – straining or inability to urinate (especially in male cats)

  • Difficulty Breathing – open-mouth breathing, wheezing, rapid or laboured breathing

  • Vomiting or Diarrhea – especially if persistent or with blood

  • Blood in Urine, Vomit, or Stool – may indicate serious internal illness

  • Severe Bleeding – cuts, punctures, or uncontrolled bleeding

  • Lethargy or Collapse – sudden weakness, non-responsiveness, or hiding

  • Paralysis or Sudden Loss of Mobility – inability to walk or drag limbs

  • Pregnancy or Birthing Complications – distress during labour or prolonged contractions

  • Heat Stroke – panting, drooling, weakness, collapse (especially in hot weather)

  • Seizures – sudden convulsions or trembling

  • Suspected Poisoning – ingestion of toxic plants, chemicals, or medications

  • Ear Infections – scratching at ears, shaking head, visible discomfort

Cats often hide signs of pain or illness. If something seems “off,” it’s best to seek emergency care right away.
